Frequently Asked Questions

WHY IS MY HONEY SOLIDIFYING?

Comprar Сialis

Raw honey has an infinite shelf life and will not go bad. It will however crystallize or granulate over time- a perfectly natural progression for all raw honey. Is this a bad thing? Absolutely not! This just means your honey is raw and the best honey money can buy. In fact, many people prefer their honey in crystallized form. For a more liquid consistency, simply place the open jar in a pot or pan of hot water (not boiling) until liquefied.

WHAT IS THIS WHITE STUFF ON TOP OF THE HONEY WHEN I OPEN THE JAR?

What you’re looking at is “honey foam,” the result of tiny air bubbles in the honey escaping to the top. After jarring our honey, air bubbles work their way up to the top of the container, creating the foam. There is nothing wrong with the honey or the foam and it is perfectly edible.

WHAT IS THE SHELF LIFE OF HONEY?

Honey has no expiration date and an infinite shelf life. Based on the variety of honey, it may crystallize over time. We recommend consuming our raw honey within two years of purchase. However if you prefer to consume it 15 years from now, be our guest!

WHAT IS RAW HONEY?

Raw honey simply means it is not processed, heated or filtered. Each batch and variety of honey has a unique color and taste which will vary from hive to hive, and harvest to harvest.

WHY DOES YOUR HONEY LOOK SO MUCH DIFFERENT THAN THE HONEY BEAR ON THE SHELF AT THE GROCERY STORE?

This has to do with processing of the honey. Since our honey is raw, it contains pollen and will crystallize over time- even within a few months for certain varieties. Our honey is not processed. This sometimes leads to a more opaque honey or darker color. Many consumers are used to a golden-colored honey in liquid form. Unfortunately, many of these honeys have been filtered and heated, removing the inherent enzymes and pollen- each of which provide honey with its exceptional taste and nutritional value. You can read more on this on our blog titled, Raw Honey Is Real Honey.

DO HONEY PRODUCTS NEED TO BE REFRIGERATED?

Honey should be kept at room temperature. The closer honey is kept to 57 degrees, the quicker it will crystallize. Even after opening, there is no need to refrigerate or freeze honey. We recommend keeping pollen refrigerated for maximum freshness. To extend the shelf life of raw pollen to two years, you may keep it in the freezer.

HOW IS MASSEY HONEY CO. SUSTAINABLE?

We care for our hives and only remove the excess honey when available. Our honey comes second to our bees. All our honey is packaged in environmentally-friendly glass jars and post-consumer packaging is used when shipping all of our online orders.

ARE YOUR PRODUCTS NATURAL OR ORGANIC?

We are dedicated to keeping honey the way it was meant to be–raw. Our honey varieties are all natural with no additives or flavorings. Varieties are based on what the bees are foraging and pollinating at the time the honey has been extracted. Due to concerns on the ethics of controlling where our bees go, we do not have USDA Organic certification. (There is currently no United States certification for organic honey- bees go where they please).

IS YOUR HONEY NON-GMO?

Our products are not Non-GMO Project Verified. All of our hives however are kept and maintained in exclusively organic landscapes where no pesticide or insecticide use is practiced. When moved for pollination, our hives are only placed where organic growing techniques are used.
